This week, I’ve been having many conversations about being a boss. After a series of unfortunate events, my trip to Amsterdam was canceled. While, I was pissed at what transpired, I understood that one monkey don’t stop Carla’s show, flow or vibe.
I’m typing this post as I’m on the plane to London to head to the Women of Color in Communications aka Color Comm’s inaugural event in London. Color Comm is a professional, New York City based organization that is focused on advancing women of color in communications, media, marketing, and advertising. In short, it’s a huge network that connects Black women to executive leaders in the industry.
Your network is your net worth.
As I had such a snafu with my last videographer whom, I wanted to take with me to Amsterdam, I decided that I needed to become my own videographer or at the very least, photographer. I have impeccable taste, an awesome eye for what works and I know my motherf*cking angles. I can take my own pictures. I came to this conclusion as I was on the treadmill at the gym yesterday (I get my best ideas on the treadmill and in the tub) and I immediately went on Amazon to order a selfie light and an iPhone tripod.
I’mma take my own gosh darn pictures. (If you know me, you know, I try not to curse. I supplement my words no matter how corny. Ya mama is corny.)
I ordered my items from Amazon with same day shipping. I’m not a prime member cause sometimes when I’m at my last coins Amazon be taking my lunch money with their $12.99 monthly prime membership.
But I did pay for same day shipping for my items and they were to arrive yesterday by 9:00pm. I went back to the gym because I’m on a mission to be like Bonita Applebum. Come thru waist.
As I’m doing my Russian twists, I realized that it was nearing 9pm and I had not received an email from Amazon that stated my package has been delivered.
I stopped my workout and got on the horn. I explained my situation, that I ordered and paid for same day shipping and my items hadn't arrived and it was past 9pm. I go from customer service rep to rep, to logistics and then to a supervisor. The tea? Because of Florence, my package was delayed and I was told to call back in the morning to check on the status of my package.
This morning before I headed to the gym and the airport, I called Amazon again. I was very adamant about the fact that I was leaving my house at 10am for my noon flight to London. My package wasn’t going to make it to me in time but the ladies at Amazon did their thang. They called me back and asked me if it was okay if the local carrier could meet me at BWI airport to deliver the package to me. We exchanged numbers and I let them know which departure terminal the local carrier could meet me.
At 10:45am, success.
I met up with Alicia who had my tiny package filled with my brand building tools. I was so overjoyed. After the week I had, of discovering that most people, even those who you talk to on a daily basis, will not see your vision and/or are jealous because you actually put the work in on your vision.
I have singular focus. I’m on a mission to level up and I don’t care if that makes me standoffish, b!tchy, or whatever else, people call a woman with a purpose. At this point of my life, I have to move like a boss and if those around me can’t see my vision or they don’t believe in my vision than I have to love them from afar.
Shoutout to Amazon for the assist today. I am grateful.
