The Fly Girl Guide to 72 Hours in Chicago
Fly Girl Travel Essentials! Elizabeth & James sunnies via Ditto, new reads and I've join the coloring book wave. Chicago was dope.
Summertime Chi. This was my first vacay in years! I’ve been so busy making a living that I forgot to make a life. I recently experienced a transitional period that changed my entire perspective on life, happiness, love, and family. Out of my experience I wrote an ebook about next level living and how to recognize the calling on your life. Entitled The Fly Girl Guide to Next Level Living: A Five Part System For Accepting & Understanding How Transition Will Elevate Your Life, it’s a personal look at how God will change the direction of your life for YOUR good.
So I headed to Chicago simply because I've always wanted to visit. And I am at the point of my life where I do what I want because I’m popping. So I headed to Chicago during Memorial Day weekend and I had a ball.
If you want a inexpensive getaway try Chicago. It’s a beautiful city with great food and chill things to do.
Here’s how a fly girl should enjoy Chicago:
Day 1:
I spent my first day in Chicago by myself with my homegirl joining me the next day. I stayed at the Indigo Gold Coast. The hotel itself was pretty straight-forward but the customer service was A1! The check-in was late at 4:00pm but I showed up at the hotel around 8am and asked if I could check-in early. They said to give them about an hour so while they held my bags for me, I ate breakfast at their restaurant. They had vegan sausage! (I’m vegan lite- which means I follow a vegan diet most days but when I’m on a vacation, I eat what I want because for one, “you do what you want when you’re popping” and two, when I’m traveling I want to experience local cuisine. )
After getting settled in. I headed straight to Oak Street Beach. Chicago was just named the number one city with the best beaches. I agree. Oak Street Beach is gorgeous. I chilled all day on the beach. Like. ALL. DAY.
It was dope.
Little known fact about me: I enjoy cigars. I found Biggs Cigar Emporium, a cigar lounge not too far from my hotel and I enjoyed a stogie all by myself.
Let me tell you- I am my best company. I enjoy the hell out of me. You want to harness your power? Learn to enjoy yourself. Figure out what you like. Do more things that you personally enjoy. That’s total fly girl ish.
Afterwards, I headed back to the telly to refresh for dinner. Being vegan lite, I don’t miss most meats. However, I randomly miss lamb. I enjoyed a delicious lamb gnocchi dish at La Storia. Hashtag bomb, hashtag veganlite, hashtag youdowhatyouwantwhenyourpoppin’.
Day 2:
The homie joined me! We went to Lou Malnati for a deep dish. Did some shopping on Magnificent Mile, had some popcorn from Garrett Popcorn, went to the Navy Pier, ate a Baltimore dog and a Chicago dog. It was chills.
Day 3:
“We spend some time and get some wine have some milds from Harold's. I told her this here's overrated but I love your city baby.”- That Way by Wale
Can I just tell you how my homegirl was bugging out on the TILT?! The TILT is a glass window on 94th floor of the John Hancock Building that tilts visitors to a 30° angle over Michigan Avenue. I’m a G so I wasn’t that scared. It was a cool way to see breathtaking views of Chicago and Lake Michigan.
We continued our last day in Chicago with more sightseeing and good conversation.
I highly recommend traveling to Chicago if you are interested in a grown and sexy vacay. The city is beautiful! I felt the kindred spirit of Kanye and Chance The Rapper too. I played tons of Ye’ pre-Kim K while there.
