I feel some kinda way upon hearing about Fabolous punching his long term girlfriend Emily B in the face and knocking out her two front teeth. But I don’t know John Jackson. I know Fabolous, the rapper, from his music. And I don’t know Emily B. Yet, I joined in with the millions of Love and Hip-Hop NY watchers, judging her life and relationship with Fab and questioning why she stayed with him even though he didn’t claim her and constantly cheated on her.
I would watch Emily cry on television and yell at my flat screen, “Emily, your level of sh!t taking is at an all time high. Just leave, girl.” But after watching the video of Fabolous lunging at Emily with her father in tow and the children crying in the background, just maybe, Emily has been too fearful to leave.
I don’t need to know the three sides of the story because there is nothing that a woman may or may not do that justifies a man hitting a woman.
I was shocked when listening to Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee on the Breakfast Club stating they couldn't see Fabolous doing something like that. But, we don’t know these artists. We don't know what they do behind closed doors.
Fabolous was in my top five favorite rap artists (my top five favorite rappers in order: Jay Z, Nas, Phife Dawg, Fabolous, and Drake). I love all of his Soul Tapes mixtapes. The Young OG Project was my gym soundtrack when it first dropped. Then Summertime Shootout 2 kept me company on my flight to Paris in 2016.
“I’m more soul food than eye candy” from "Soul Food" off of Friday on Elm Street is a line for the enlightened baddies. I quote Fabolous all the time.
I cannot overlook what Fabolous has done because I am a woman before a Hip Hop fan. Those that defending him are people who don’t want their illusions destroyed.
People want to hang onto their belief of WHO Fab is as opposed to the truth.
And since my Summer ‘18 playlist has been affected in the absence of "So Into You " featuring Tamia, I have to consider the alternatives.
"So Into You" - Tamia (Original)
"Daydreaming"- Cam’ron featuring Tiffany
"Feel It Boy"- Beenie Man featuring Janet Jackson
"Best of Me"- Mya featuring Jadakiss
"Sunshine"- Jay Z featuring Foxy Brown
"Feelin So Good" - J. Lo featuring Fat Joe & Big Pun
It sucks because I was so looking forward to the third installment of his Summertime Shootout but I can no longer support him nor listen to him.
